Today on the New Year’s Eve I want to wish you Success and Happiness in 2016, and of course Good Health. Without your health you have nothing. It’s very difficult to enjoy success or anything for that matter without your health.
The New Year is a time to reflect on where we’ve been and where we want to go. It’s a re-boot if you will to put it in technical terms. Questions I ask myself are:
- Did I do everything I wanted to do?
- Did I reach my goals?
- Am I happy with my life?
- Did I have the level of success I wanted?
You can boil all of these down to Was I Successful? Because success to me is a lot of different things. There’s success in my business which also equates to financial success. But I also look at physical, emotional and spiritual success as well. I believe you need all of these to be a well-rounded person and to truly be happy. And isn’t happiness what we really want? I urge you to take a look at these facets of your life and take stock of where you stand and how you measure success. It’s a very personal journey after all.
Business and Financial Success
Of course we need success financially to be able to help others and do all of the things we want to do. I’m not talking about a Gazillion dollars! I’m talking about being able to be impulsive and do something like go the Super Bowl if we want to. It’s being able to donate to my favorite charities in amounts that most people would cringe at. It’s also being able to say I am debt free and able to pay cash for everything. To me that is financial success. Am I there yet? No, but I’m working on it.
This one to me means being able to be healthy and strong enough to do all of the things I want to do. I want people to look at me and say, “you know, for her age, she’s in pretty good shape.” Does that mean running marathons again? No. It means being an active participant in family and friends activities. I don’t like sitting on the sidelines as an observer. Am I there? I think I am.
To me this means my mindset and how I think about things. Mindset can make you successful and happy or make you miserable. We all choose how we feel whether we know it or not. Sometimes we like to blame others for our failures, but it’s really our choices that will determine success or failure.
I can’t make you miserable, only you can do that. Likewise, I can’t make you happy, it’s your choice. I choose to be positive and when I do fail, I choose to take responsibility and fix it. Am I positive and upbeat all of the time? Of course not. I am taking steps every day to improve though through meditation and working with a mentor. You don’t have to do it alone you know.
This one is deeply personal. For some of us, it’s believing in God or another Higher Power. For others it’s believing in the Universe. And for still others it’s simply living a good life and being kind to those around you. Whatever your belief, we can all improve in this aspect of our lives. Even Pope Francis, who I believe is one of the most spiritual figures today, tells us he is a sinner. I pray every day that I will continue to improve my spiritual life.
So as you are making those Resolutions tonight or tomorrow, I urge you to take a look at these areas of your life and include them in your list for 2016. I believe that to be truly successful and happy, you must have balance in your life.
Be safe tonight and HAPPY NEW YEAR, AND HAVE A TOAST TO YOUR SUCCESS!
