Today I enter the debate: Diet or Exercise. These are the two different camps around the best way to lose weight.
Believe it or not, there is a debate whether you can diet your way to your goal, or whether you can exercise your way there. I believe you need both to lose that weight. I don’t know who said it but the saying goes, “you can’t exercise away a bad diet.” Each have its own advantages.
Diet or Exercise, the Debate
The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. That’s a given. You also need to be sure that those calories are the right ones. You must include all food groups to maintain balance for your body. You also need to limit sugar. Sugar is bad anytime, but especially when you are trying to lose weight. Limiting the amount of calories you take in will cause the pounds to melt away. But, diet will only take you so far.
Exercise will also help you burn more calories than you consume. The danger though is that people assume that because they exercise, they can eat more. All that does is defeat the purpose of the exercise. Exercise will tone you up and build muscle. Muscle burns fat and increases metabolism. But just like diet, it only goes so far.
You need both to become the best version of yourself. Diet will drop the weight, exercise will make your body look the part. In fact, how you look and feel about how you look should be the indicator you pay attention to. The weight you lose is just a number on the scale. Isn’t it really about looking and feeling better? Diet and exercise complement each other to help you get there.
What camp are you in, diet or exercise? I’d really like to hear from you.
